Discover the secrets of Transylvania and Walachia
Day 1: Bucharest: Arrival on the international airport of Bucharest. Meet your guide and transfer to a three or four* hotel of our capital. Dinner.
Day 2: Bucharest – Pitesti – Curtea de Arges (150km): Sightseeing tour of Bucharest city centre, a perfect occasion to enjoy the dynamic life of our capital: Visit of the Princely court, of the Stavropoleos and the Pariarchal Churches. Departure to Curtea de Arges, for a visit to the legendary Bishop Church built by Manole where the Romanian Kings and Queens are buried. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 3: Curtes de Arges – Tg. Jiu – Turnu Severin – Gura Vaii (240 km): After breakfast visit of the One Piece Wood Monastery and Hurezi Monastery. Drive to Tg. Jiu where we’ll have the occasion to admire the masterpieces of the famous artist Constantin Brancusi. After a long but picturesque drive admiring superb landscapes we’ll arrive in Turnu Severin. Visit of the ruins of Trajan’s Bridge.Dinner and accommodation in a hotel Continental*** in Gura Vaii.
Day 4: Gura Vaii – Caransebes – Timisoara – Arad (270 km): Departure, crossing the Retezat Reserve (one of the biggest in Europe) on our way to Timisoara. A first stop to visit the spa Baile Herculane - known since Romans’time, the Romans Baths with the bas relief of Hercules have been very well preserved. Arrival in Timisoara, the town of flowers, known also as “the little Vienna”. There are palaces in baroque style, wide squares, nice parks. Drive to Arad , another town of the Banat province having a particular charm. Dinner and accommodation *** in Arad.
Day 5: Arad – Deva – Sibiu (275 km). Today we are driving towards east. First stop to visit the Corvin Family Castle, built in different stages: there are Gohtic, Renaissance and baroque elements. We’ll have a typical lunch in a little village called Sibiel, lying not far from Sibiu; we’ll visit the museum of glass painted icons. Arrival in Sibiu, a town that knew how to preserve almost untouched its charm and the atmosphere of the medieval cities. Walking tour through the old centre: the Evangelic Church, the Liar’s Bridge. Dinner and accommodation *** in Sibiu.
Day 6: Sibiu – Medias – Sighisoara – Brasov (220km): Admiring the beautiful landscapes of Transylvania, we’ll arrive in Medias. Visit of the old centre: St. Margaret’s Evangelical Church, the house of Stephan Ludwig Roth. Visit of the most important fortified church of Transylvania in Biertan, that hosts the largest wing altar in Romania, listed by UNESCO as part of the World Culteral Heritage. Arrival in Sighisoara considered to be the best preserved medieval inhabited town of Europe. It’s the birth town of Prince Vlad the Impaler known as DRACULA. Dinner and accommodation in Brasov.
Day 7: Brasov – Bran – Sinaia – Targoviste (185 km). After breakfast, walking tour in the old centre in Brasov: Black Church, the Old City Hall Town Square.Visit of the Bran Castle, also known as Dracula’s Castle. Departure to Sinaia and visit of the Peles Castle, former summer residence of the Romanian royal family. Leaving Transylvania, our next stop will be in Targoviste, old capital of Walachia. Dinner and accommodation in Targoviste.
Day 8: Targoviste – Bucharest (80 km): In the morning drive to Bucharest and transfer to the airport. If there’s time left short shopping tour in the centre of Bucharest.
